Hi guys! Before I get into anything, I just want to note that I don't envision this group as a hierarchical thing with me somehow in charge over any of y'all. I just wanted to create a space for us, so if anyone would like a different way of organizing said space and wanted to mod up (or wanted to make a similar one on LJ), that's cool, whatever works.

But I do think we should introduce ourselves! In the comments! (LJ peeps, you can comment with OpenID - which allows you to get comments emailed and have 6 icons, or just anon with signed comments.) Something along the lines of...

Also, if you want to have AIM chat checkins, maybe your SN and times that would be good for you?

Uhh.

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: Troublesome anxiety kept me from making this comment earlier! I think that is pretty telling.
The kind of stuff you write or would like to: About forty pages of research papers?
Anything about method or goals you have/would like to have: Ahahaha. My goal is to write about ten pages of that, for "starters," in two different areas of inquiry. Over what time period I hesitate to posit, since I probably won't be able to start writing until after next week, due to events in the coming week. Also find non-stressful ways to stay focused on research (like, making notes that are actually useful, actual arguments that have an actual point and step-by-step analysis) when reading primary and secondary sources, but since this is a writing community... basically, finding a thread and being able to stick with and develop it over multiple sitting-and-readings/sitting-and-writings. Since that is one big thing that keeps tripping me up in a real way.
Important things about a community environment for you: Not contributing to the headache-y, chest-paining anxiety I have so much trouble with when I research or write, with respect to anyone else or me either!
FEELINGS, ETC.?: I am bad at expressing them in my own words, which is why I usually hesitate to try, which is why I have trouble with them because I hesitate to practice! Ah, being able to identify a psychological circle of entrapment while still having so much trouble breaking free.

I don't have AIM but I am thinking of getting it! "Okay, friend, let's both write" sounds like it could be a good idea.

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: I like exclamation points! And have never successfully been part of a writing group.
The kind of stuff you write or would like to: I generally write very short stories. I would like to write longer stories. Mostly they have spies in them.
Important things about a community environment for you: What everyone else said about the POUNDING ANXIETY and so on. Deadlines are my worst enemy.

I have IM but I use it to talk to one (1) person, so I would probably not do that. But it sounds like a nice idea. :)

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: I am 22 years old. My greatest love ever since I was a child is stories. I remember my favorite thing as a kid was my mother reading me stories before bedtime. Once I learned to read myself I became very obsessive about it. I love all kinds of genres but my favorites are fantasy, historical, adventure, and quirky comedies. I have alot of affection any story with a big focus on friendship or familial bonds (esp if the family in question is very dysfunctional). I am also a big fan of tv and film. To me these are mediums that are also great for stories and you can tell stories via these mediums in a very different way than you would in a book. My dream in life would be to write for television on day. But even if I dont accomplish that, I'd be happy writing novels or short fictions as well.

The kind of stuff you write or would like to: I really like all kinds of genres, so i have story ideas that cover just about every genre imaginable except maybe political thriller and straight mysteries. I would say the common theme within my work would be strong friendship ties, women with strong personalities, lots of dialogue and a usually good bit of humor/levity (even when i'm writing something that is largely a dramatic piece of work.)

Anything about method or goals you have/would like to have: I just, really want to accomplish some sort of writing that I am not deeply ashamed to show to other living people. I know I am perhaps too hard on myself but still I feel like I am not writing to the best of my ability and I just wat to improve as writer, be able to actually finish and post something for others to read and...well yeah that's about it really for short term goals.
Important things about a community environment for you: Support, respect, constructive criticism...I confess I am not normally active in communities. I just tend to just lurk around. Though I'll try to participate a bit here.

FEELINGS, ETC.?: I am usually very reluctant in sharing my writing, i mean outside of an academic context. So I am more than little bit nervous about this, but I am gonna try to suck it up and post something before this summer is over. Also I am really concerned I will never be as good a writer as I want to be. But I figure the best way to overcome that is to just get to writing and see where that goes.

~openID~ at least until i stop being too lazy to get a real account

Name: Kyrie. (it rhymes with 'eerie,' don't you know)

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: I love stories and narrative and deeeeeeeeeep discussions about such. Or just, you know, failing and squeeing.

The kind of stuff you write or would like to: generally urban fantasy or sci-fi with a heavy focus on ladies doing adventure-y things! Also big ensemble casts.

Anything about method or goals you have/would like to have: I would like to finish the things I start once in a damn while and ~improve~ my prose. (Fun fact: I feel that I do nicely enough with dialogue, but I think my prose is SO DRY OMFG and I'm currently trying to figure out how to make it pretty and evocative without sounding purple or flowery or just plain weird.)

Important things about a community environment for you: what everyone else said about craving the low-stress atmosphere, pretty much!

FEELINGS, ETC.?: IDK THIS MAKES ME PRETTY NERVOUS BUT ALSO EXCITED. HERE'S TO GOOD TIMES AND PRODUCTIVITY?

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: Sometimes the extent of my nerdiness still surprises me!
The kind of stuff you write or would like to: I love gen fic! Shipping is great, but I feel like it can be confining sometimes. I guess one of my goals would be to strengthen my ability to write fics that have believable and engaging interpersonal relationships (romantic or not!) while also having great atmosphere and thematic progression. As far as original fiction goes, I mostly write short stories and vignettes, but I do have a manuscript I started a few years ago that I should really start working on again!
Anything about method or goals you have/would like to have: MY TRACK RECORD FOR FINISHING THINGS IS NOT GREAT. That is one thing I would definitely like to change. I also tend to write by hand first, but unfortunately that means that a lot of ideas remain stuck in the notebook. :(
Important things about a community environment for you: Thoughtful constructive-criticism is always a plus; low-stress is golden.
FEELINGS, ETC.?: LET'S DO THIS THING????

Anything about yourself you'd like to share: English major who loves to write. I think that says everything about my various nerdy writing ways!
The kind of stuff you write or would like to: Short character-driven pieces with pretty prose. I'm working on being able to sustain longer stories.
Anything about method or goals you have/would like to have: Er, see above, I guess! Mostly I need to relearn how to write consistently and not psych myself out of finishing things.
Important things about a community environment for you: Discussion and squee are such motivators for me! I am also a champ at cheerleading the efforts of others.
FEELINGS, ETC.?: I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS. RIGHT NOW I'M MOSTLY EXCITED.

My AIM SN is dead poetess, and vnillafic works for GTalk!
